illuminata

for my Mother–Mary Kaye, written in the wake of the 2017 eclipse

Holy Mother Mary
Heal my mother, Mary
before the grave
cradles her
or my fear of losing her
engulfs me
Shine your light
your immaculate light
upon both of our hearts
A shadow has eclipsed us
a loss
beckoning forth
inertia
and
stagnation
Lift us beyond
this plane
to the realm
where you ascended
(where you were assumed)
Feminine
Forgiving
Fostering
Nurture our hearts
our devoted
child-like hearts
Human
Thumping
Awaiting
your touch
and comfort
Soothe
our brows
Release
our spines
Lengthen down
into our wombs
used and
unused
and
Walk
us through
the
shadows
into the fields
Point us to the
Lillies
and
Teach us
O Mary
Teach us to
breathe in
the delicate
scent
of the soft white bloom
that withers
all too soon
